Outside the barn, Heather enjoys attending horse trials with her homebreds, taking long trail rides through the mountains surrounding Tucson, and diving into the latest equine science study. She currently stands two stallions, Niles & Larry, who are learning tricks using positive reinforcement training methods. Vanessa Saccomani – vanessa.saccomani
April 13, 2026 @ 4:00 pm EDT

Vanessa is an Equine Canada licensed coach and Rider Level Evaluator. She currently teaches and trains out of several barns in the Chilliwack area. Before moving to British Columbia, she toured with Cavalia Odysseo and later worked as a full-time trainer with the RCMP Musical Ride. Her focus is on bringing a more holistic approach to horse care and training by seeking the root causes behind unwanted behaviours rather than simply correcting them. Most challenges can be understood through the lens of a horse’s core nature: freedom, forage, and friends. Another important layer of analysis involves collaborating with specialized professionals beyond the veterinarian and farrier, including bodyworkers, nutritionists, homeopaths, saddle fitters, and bridle or bit fitters. She is fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and supportive team to lean on and learn from. This fall, Vanessa hopes to complete training in equine-assisted learning so she can work alongside active and retired first responders.

Madeline pursued a master’s degree in equine nutrition at the University of Guelph. She then launched Balanced Bay, a full-service equine nutrition consulting company dedicated to working one-on-one with the horse owner to curate optimal, personalized nutrition plans that are practical to implement. Through Balanced Bay, she has worked with hundreds of horses across North America and globally.
