Jeanette Mitchell

I started riding in 1968 at age 7, focused on Three-day Eventing and Pony Club competition.  As a teenager, I worked summer riding camps and taught lessons, in exchange for riding privileges and lessons. I was hooked but took time off for college, service in the military, family and work in Silicon Valley. I re-entered the horse world in 2000, as my young daughter became interested in riding and I had the time to available for horses again.  Shortly after that, I began a successful training program in Three-Day Eventing and Dressage; and over the years have seemed my daughter succeed as well as four of my students get to compete at Junior Young Riders.  However, struggling with poor saddle fit and balance resulting in horses that seemed “difficult” to keep round and relaxed I yearned for an answer. What struck me was that I had been out of riding and competing for nearly 20 years and when I returned, essentially all riding equipment for humans had changed but very little had changed for the horses.  Bottom line was that the technology for my running, cycling and skiing had changed drastically, making these sports so much safer, more comfortable, and faster, yet sadly my poor horses were in nearly the same equipment I rode in in 1975.

Then about 15 years ago, I met Jochen Schleese and was immediately impressed by his determination to change saddle fit to address the horse as an athlete first, with saddles that fit properly enabling them to perform at their best. I have not looked back and proudly share my belief in Schleese with everyone I can.
