The Royal Winter Fair 2015

November 16th, 2015

I was actually going to write about another very sad case study of a horse but I thought it would be timely to put some thoughts down about our iconic Canadian horse/trade/agricultural show instead. (So case study will be moved to next week’s entry). For those of you who have never worked the Royal – the hours are long, the atmosphere exhausting – and pretty much ever...

Saddle Fitting Case Histories

November 9th, 2015

I work with my friend Dr. Joanna Robson, DVM (Author of ‘Recognizing the Horse in Pain and What You Can Do About It’) occasionally and confer with her often on horse issues that arise due to poor saddle fit, so we exchange war stories. She is also one of the founding members of our HIPPOH Foundation (Horse Industry Professionals Protecting Our Horses – www.hippohfound...

Muscles Atrophy and Muscle Definition

November 3rd, 2015

I often come across clients who complain that their saddle has caused muscle atrophy. I think there is some misunderstanding of what exactly muscle atrophy is and how is it different from good muscle definition. When a muscle has been trained for more than it would have normally developed naturally, and then not used for a while, it will naturally ‘atrophy’ back to...

Thoughts on the Certified Horsemanship Association Conference, Amarillo TX

October 26th, 2015

I just recently came off of a ‘killer trip’ again with my most long term agent, Christiane Noelting of the Christiane Noelting Dressage Center in Vacaville CA, where I saw 150 of our valued California clients in less than two weeks.  It was – as always – wonderfully gratifying to see how well everyone is doing, but I have to admit that it is getting harder and harder ...

Testimonials

I wanted to provide a testimonial. One year ago I took my 17 y/o Hano to a Schleese fitting. He had been off and on again for half a year and for the first time in his life missed out on championships due to lameness. I was crushed and struggling with contemplating retiring my lifetime show partner and best friend. I bought him a new HK, really as a hail Mary. I'm a nurse, not a millionaire, and really struggled badly with buyer’s remorse once home. I was determined to return the saddle, feeling this was a snake oil indulgence. But it wasn't. Every time I rode, I could feel he was better and better. He actually went sounder. Now at 18, going on 19, he still goes in front pads and still gets previcox every day, same as he did at 17, but he has been absolutely sound for an entire year. Never missed one day. He went to championships this year and scored well. He is happy and productive. Thank you Schleese for keeping my dear friend going. I would happily buy again!!
